If you have issues with quote formatting, email clients, etc, you can discuss here.

(Or just go discuss in blog comments for a while where you don't have to format. Like here: http://curi.us/1785-fallible-ideas-unformatted )

purpose of life

I'm not sure if that is a broad topic, but what is the ultimate value in life, besides money? and if life is meaningless, then how to stop feeling insignificant in this universe.

why are you thinking about "the ultimate value in life"?

> and if life is meaningless, then how to stop feeling insignificant in this universe.

i don't know what you're feeling. what does feeling significant mean? like, what do you think you would feel like if you didn't have the insignificant feeling?

> what do you think you would feel like if you didn't have the insignificant feeling?

how should i know, i felt worse than insignifigant in fi group on e-mail

Why did you feel insignificant? Lots of people replied to you.

GOOD POINT!

Maybe he feels insignificant because he feels he has low status, and he wants more status.

Ben at 11:49 AM on November 22, 2015 | #4473 | reply | quote

i've been moderated on fi, still clueless and feel discouraged

Ben at 11:53 AM on November 22, 2015 | #4474 | reply | quote

stop breaking the rules then. you seem kinda illiterate. it says on the guidelines and the yahoo group homepage not to post from the website. you don't seem like you're trying.

Anonymous at 11:58 AM on November 22, 2015 | #4475 | reply | quote

then how do i change it?

Anonymous at 12:04 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4476 | reply | quote

use email. stop being helpless.

who is discouraging you?

someone on fi?

or are you discouraging yourself?

if the latter, why are you discouraging yourself?

what thoughts are you having?

Rami at 1:34 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4481 | reply | quote

and how to stop being angry at life? (life is hateful)

Anonymous at 1:37 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4482 | reply | quote

failure = i'm a failure

that's why

i keep messing up, and each time i mess up = more convinced that i will never get it right, and mistake correction is harder and harder

Ben at 1:42 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4484 | reply | quote

Ben at 2:45 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4485 | reply | quote

so? why does how hard it is matter?

are you saying that if it's hard beyond some level then you should just give up on life? i don't get your logic.

Rami at 3:39 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4486 | reply | quote

> and how to stop being angry at life?

you have an anger problem? have you read my anger book? i posted it to fi. you didn't reply to it.

i don't know what you mean. do you mean certain people hate you? or what?

Rami at 3:42 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4487 | reply | quote

why don't you answer peoples questions? you've been asked lots of questions and you ignore them.

Rami at 3:47 PM on November 22, 2015 | #4488 | reply | quote

because I have no answer for them

Ben at 8:45 AM on November 23, 2015 | #4489 | reply | quote

i'm skeptical because above you said:

> i can only send [email] to rami, not anyone else

i asked:

> huh?

you didn't reply.

are you saying that you can't answer my question asking you clarify what you mean by that you can only send email to me?

Rami at 8:56 AM on November 23, 2015 | #4490 | reply | quote

I can only send through Rami via email, when you mentioned (use email. stop being helpless.) for (not to post from the website )

what's stopping you from using email to post to fi?

Rami at 2:35 PM on November 23, 2015 | #4492 | reply | quote

he doesn't know how. make a tutorial with video and screenshots!!

ben was not clear about that. a clearer statement would have been to say...

"i can't send emails to fi"

but even that isn't clear enough. i would still ask, "what's stopping you from sending emails to fi?"

what is stopping him from knowing how to send emails to fi?

my best guess is that ben is thinking like this...

"i don't know how to properly send emails to fi. and i refuse to learn how. and i refuse to ask anybody questions to help me solve my problem."

Rami at 3:39 PM on November 23, 2015 | #4494 | reply | quote

"he doesn't know how. make a tutorial with video and screenshots!!"

No video is necessary. Go to Google, sign up for an e-mail account there. Sign up to FI for that account. Send e-mails to FI using gmail.

i think you're overestimating people's ability to use computers. by a lot.

and he'll format stuff wrong, not delete a bunch of footer, god only knows what else

He has already signed up for a Yahoo account, and for FI. He can figure out how to sign up for a Google account. As for what mistakes he will make after he does that, it's difficult to know the content of those mistakes until he makes them.

Anonymous at 4:04 PM on November 23, 2015 | #4497 | reply | quote

or maybe he thinks he's trying to learn how but not being effective at it because he keeps dead ending discussions and ends up not learning anything.

here's an example of how it works.

person: i want to do X.

fi: why do you think you should do X?

let's say the person doesn't know how to answer.

so then he thinks that he's wrong and gives up on the idea.

and he dead ends the discussion. he doesn't reply anymore.

a major problem here is that when he gave up on the idea, part of him wanted to not give up on it. so he was conflicted over the idea that he acted on WHEN he acted on it. that's tcs-coercion, i.e. mental suffering.

what’s going on is that he's blocking learning. he didn’t learn why his idea is wrong, why he should or shouldn't act on his idea. he just quit on it without knowing any of that useful information.

and it’s that lack of learning that CAUSES tcs-coercion. tcs-coercion is the result.

so, what should he do instead?

he should be relentless in learning why some idea is good or bad.

just because you can’t answer a question about your idea, that doesn’t mean you should stop. ask a different question. or say that you don’t know the answer to that question and ask for advise on how to continue.

Rami, how is this done?

Anonymous at 1:53 PM on November 25, 2015 | #4502 | reply | quote

>> you select which email address you use for FI.

> Rami, how is this done?

1. login to your yahoo account.

2. click on the Account Info option in the menu at the top right of the screen. (you'll click on the gear-looking icon, which drops down a menu, where you'll see "Account Info" in the menu).

3. click on Manage Aliases at the bottom.

4. click on "Add an email address" and go through that whole process to add your gmail address.

--- once you've added your gmail address to your yahoo account ---

5. go to FI discussion group here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/fallible-ideas/info

6. click on Membership menu, and choose the "Edit Membership" option.

7. click on the edit button next to "Identity" (it's towards the top)

8. select the gmail address that you added in step 4.

Done.

what does it mean to use the list?

Anonymous at 7:13 PM on November 28, 2015 | #4510 | reply | quote

you join and read the emails and write your own.

Anonymous at 7:22 PM on November 28, 2015 | #4511 | reply | quote

if you're going to

1) ignore criticism, e.g. the post explaining why you shouldn't be discussing free will at this time

and

2) not learn how to use this list, e.g. with quotations

then does it make sense for you to post here? what for?

quotes are automatic with all good email software. read the list guidelines which mention software you can use. watch elliot's videos of him posting on youtube. do something. stop being utterly helpless.
