i don't like to eat when i'm full

who came up with the idea that we need to force young children to eat more? how can something so idiotic be the cause of constant struggles and strife in families? sheesh

Um.

You don't like to eat when you're full. Some children (I recall being an example), full or not, don't like to eat things that don't taste like candy.

Not the same thing.

Just sayin'

so these children, if allowed their own eating habits, will starve to death? or grow up deformed? or what?

Neither. They'll burst into tears when broccoli's placed on their plate, and when you refuse to give them pizza instead. Eventually, they'll eat the broccoli if they're hungry enough. This is the "constant struggle" you're talking about, and you're right, it's idiotic (but it's prompted by the child's behavior).

It's not (necessarily) caused by parents "forcing young children to eat more" though (does that actually go on??), in fact something more like the opposite.

wait wait, what if we let the child eat whatever he wanted. so he got his pizza. then what would happen? besides him being happier.

i ain't no doctor but seems to me that among other things and to various degrees if your policy were followed thru upon, he could get fat, feel sick higher % of time, be weaker, have more cavities, get diabetes, not get chicks/friend in school for being fat, and thus not *really* "be happier" except for the temporary food buzz you're allowing him to indulge in

but apart from that, you're right, why the hell not try it out and just see what happens. kids are experiments!!

i wonder what'd happen if we let 'em inject all the heroin they wanted too.... :)

p.s. oh yeah, also, food costs money.. junk food/ food not prepared at home tends to cost more money.

good food tends to cost more than bad food. *shrug*

Blixa seems to believe we are natural born binge eaters. Is this right, given our animal nature? Animals seem to eat as much food as they can find, pets become really fat if their owners do not limit access to food, but in nature it's hard work for animals to find food so they don't have much opportunity to be obese. Is the default theory we are born with "eat all the foods in sight"? And then we learn other theories that correct this one?
