💯 Write Quick Tiny Replies

One of the best things people could do here is write lots of short (1-3 sentence) replies, primarily in reply to me.

Having "discussions" is hard. Reading what other posters say and benefitting from that is hard (takes significant critical thinking skills and good judgment and time management). Writing a quick comment to share your thoughts is much easier.

If you want to make much progress here, you'll have to do and post stuff. (I'm working on setting up a new site that will work better with less participation. But that is not my goal here. The Basecamp is primarily for people to participate at if they want to.)

So far, no one has done several short, easy, successful projects, nor talked about why not. Writing short comments is even easier than doing some 1-5min projects. (Another way to make project practice easier is to write down the planning (like goals, steps, resources) shortly after doing it instead of before.)

Just reading stuff is even easier but I am not trying to make that work here. It's very difficult, and tons of work, to help people make any meaningful progress without them communicating. That is not a goal at this Basecamp. You can read articles here for entertainment if you want but you should not expect your life and knowledge to actually improve that way.

I like the idea of sharing my thoughts on posts in 1-3 sentences. That sounds easy. I don't like that I spend so much time proof reading each word and sentence I write. I get less done

Any idea where you got the idea you should proof read instead of talking normally? The problem is probably not fully solved yet.
Dface
I can't recall exactly, but I think I got it in college cuz I was awful at essays. Whenever I want to write down something correctly, I now proofread a bunch of times until it sounds good to me.
Elliot, Fallible Ideas
oh yeah college essay writing is really bad. people learn bad habits to sound fancy and please teachers. most of the time it's better to write pretty close to how you'd talk out loud
Elliot, Fallible Ideas
do you have concerns about not proofreading? like you might be worried about being embarrassed by a typo or ppl judging u.
Dface
Yeah, Im embarrased of being seen as not putting enough effort into the things I write.

if it's not like an article, or a debate, or precise/advanced philosophy, then it's just chatting and it just matters if ppl can understand you. same as talking.

some ppl are judgmental but most ppl, especially ones on internet forums, don't have power over you like teachers did.
Dface
Ok that sounds good to me. I like being free to make a mistake. Like I don't get punished for it. We can just talk it out

ok so you kind of have to communicate/say things to be able to make progress in this basecamp. that seems like a very basic low level primary thing you need to know for this basecamp.

i can write tiny replies for other things not just this post.

it doesnt seem that hard to write a lot of tiny replies to a lot of things. that seems like something i could do! im gonna make a note of that somewhere!

Do it more then! :)

the exclamation point and smiley face were helpful to me. without those it feels like it would be more idk bossy or demanding or something? but with them it feels more friendly to me.

I intend to start posting short, daily replies here for at least 3 weeks. It seems like a fairly easy way to start making progress.
I don’t think I have made any progress lately.

Edit: Fixed the formatting of the quotes.

I can't write quick tiny replies at the same time that I write project plans or project steps. But I can do them in different posts.

Is it possible to post too many things? Sometimes I worry that I'm annoying people by posting too much.

No

I often feel Elliot's suggestions as bossy or demanding or complaining. I should reconsider that interpretation. Maybe they're meant as business-like or even friendly.

There is a lot of information lost in text format.  We evolved to communicate face-to-face where tone and facial expressions provide information.  Text based communication requires some additional care which is not required when communicating with tone and facial expressions.  I have even thought that it might be good to record video responses and share links to the unlisted video response.

Yes, when you see someone in person, tone and facial expression (and body language too) can communicate a lot. But you still have the problem that people interpret these things according to their mostly unconscious social ideas, and people’s social ideas aren’t all the same. What one person may consider friendly, another may consider rude.
