because it doesn't make sense to try to do things contrary to what you want to do. how can you choose some option other than the one you want to?
You CAN try to do things you don't wanna do.
Sometimes you have to be nice to somebody even if you don't like him/her

if you have 2 conflicting wants, and then choose 1 before resolving the conflict, then you're choosing an option other than the one you want to.
